Rightly so, the Watson Traverse was included in the new book titled 50 Classic Ski Descents in North America, but even before this book was released friends had talked about this route, speaking highly of it or dreaming of doing it. Skiing at the Mount Baker Ski Area you just stare at the Ptarmigan Ridge which gently winds up the Park Glacier then the headwall and eventually to the summit. So when the weather lined up and partners Patrick Haggerty and Adam U fell into place it felt right to embark. The entire route went without any hiccups at all. Nothing on the route is that technical, just long hours spent walking up the Coleman Deming glacier, great skiing down from the summit, a lengthy up and down traverse to the ski area and some car shuttling. All said and done the 16+ miles and 10,500 feet of climbing took 13 hours, a great, great day spent in the hills.
