Last week 8 friends and myself loaded up the cars to make a ski pilgramage to Nelson, BC. For most of us it was our first time, we had all seen the photos and heard stories about this quaint little town that somehow has managed to stay true to it’s nature and avoid the agro ski scene. The stories were true. No rat race for first tracks, no huge crowds and super pleasant people. So with those factors and the two feet of snow that fell the few days prior, we had ourselves a great time.

On the way up we happened to be first responders on a pretty hair raising semi-accident. The roads were sheer ice and a semi neglected to put on chains which caused it to do a 180 turn back up hill and swung off the road into a ditch and trees. It was a double trailer filled with liquid zinc, Jeff Campbell was the hero and talked to the driver while holding him in C-spine for 30 minutes until the help arrived. The driver was ok but suffered a bad head injury and  his spine was sensitive to touch…be careful out there.

Radical. Glad things turned out ok for the driver. Wild, the things you’ll see as you’re headed out have some fun.

  • Great set of images! I really like the ones through trees.

  • I’m not surprised the accident was a semi. I returned from two weeks in the Canadian Rockies with lots of stories of accidents, all semis. The worst involved three rigs west of Rogers Pass. I think that since there are no interstate style highways through the B.C mountains truckers feel they must push hard to make up time. I spoke with an RCMP officer who just shook his head at relating how a semi going 60 rear ended a motorist doing a safe 40, conditions were compact snow and ice with severely reduced visibility in a snowstorm.

  • Forgot to mention, great photos as usual!

  • yeah the semi trucks have always scared me a bit, i wish they had their own freeway to drive on.
