The Chuckanut 50k is a race that I personally have wanted to run for about 4 years now, but as the race date is March 21st I never find myself in the type of running shape I would want to be to compete.  Skiing always takes over and my long runs end up being neglected.  So this year for the first time I was able to go and photograph some of the runners participating in the event.  I have nothing but respect for the folks that enter this race, seeing that it is March and towards the end of a wet and gloomy Northwest winter I know that the prior months of training were not easy and took more than a fair share of discipline in order to enter in race health and stamina. My hope with photographing this race was to watch & photograph some of the top runners and document the will power and speed it takes to finish a race like this in top form.  This year really worked out despite one of the main aid stations not really being accessible due to a road washout.  Congrats to Aaron Heidt for running an extremely fast race.

  • Garrett,
Wow, I am alway super impressed by your photography. This was a great series on the race. Thanks for capturing these images. What I love even more is your commentary on the race. I have done a handful of 50k races, I have always trained pretty well for them. This year was a bit differnt, I started to bike a lot more, yoga…. running took the back burner. As I ran this I had so much admiration of all those people out there who trained for it and committed so much time and energy to running. It is inspirational that is for sure.
AND! I was so suprised when I saw the first photo in the series, it is me! Super cool! Great pic!

  • Is this seriously 50km? Cause that’s more than a marathon and would be ridiculous.
