33 inches of snow fell on Mount Baker this prior week and then sunshine broke through, the combination I typically can only dream of.  Sakeus Bankson and Pat Haggarty woke up nice and early with me in order to get up into the Mt. Baker backcountry by sunrise…we didn’t leave until sunset, it was that good.  An absolutely beautiful day where my camera felt light, I was present and had a great time with some fellow friends.  As the sun set we were touring up to the top of Mt. Herman with a helicopter buzzing in the background in order to evacuate a skier who was caught in a sizable avalanche.  He survived but his tib/fib was broken, a sobering reminder of the dangers that are present during what we do for fun.

Camera Geek Begin: above is another reason why I am loving the Nikon D700…above is the full size image and then below the crop.  Great resolution and the camera still shoots at 8.5 frames a second, so good!  Geek session ending.
