I stumbled across this yesterday:

This is basically the camera and wide angle lens I am using cut in half, pretty impressive.  This really illustrates fairly clearly why these hunks of metal and glass cost so much.  From this perspective the 14-24 f/2.8 lens is even more impressive than the body itself.  To see the rest of the surgery click HERE.

Some shots from this winter at Clayton Beach, WA with the Nikon D700 with a 14-24 lens.  It is beyond me how the item pictured above can capture what is below, taking our reality and digitally translating it onto a memory card then onto a computer.  Fascinating; another reason why I just love taking photographs.
