This was the recipe of success for yesterdays mellow tour in the sun around Table Mountain.  We all new the snow wouldn’t be great but the sun would be shining high in the sky.  Sure enough the snow was variable but at this point the backcountry is hard to distinguish from in bounds riding due to so many tracks.  Luckily this is the upcoming forecast:

picture-1I haven’t seen the forecast look like this since early January.  It looks like the right recipe to blend the old crusty surface hoar, wind effected, sun scoured layers with lots of new snow (what we avalanche geeks call a “right side up” storm)…now we can only wait and see.  Many people in the NW including myself are saying this winter is one of the sunniest, driest winters we can remember.  In what is supposed to be the gloomy, dark, wet Northwest I find myself wondering if we are actually still in Utah.  I never thought I would dread the sight of sunshine so much and rejoice over rain projected in Bellingham indefinitely for the next week+.
